Will my dog outgrow its trembling and shaking or should I consult my vet?

Dear Seth,
My dog just turned one
year old and she is always shivering seems to be really scared of
everything...bags, books, you name it. I bought her a couple of
soft squeaky toys and she loved them, but now when I try to play
with her with these same toys, she runs and hides. I am becoming
concerned about this behavior, and want to know if she will grow
out of this or do you think she needs to see the Vet?
Thank You,
Marta
Marta,
This is a tough one. First, I strongly recommend that you take her to your vet to discuss these issues. Your veterinarian will be able to determine whether or not this is a medical based issue or a behavioral issue. Secondly, your Vet will also know of behaviorists and trainers in your area that will be able to provide you with the best possible outcome. I think that this should be addressed sooner rather than later. I know that your dog can overcome this, possibly with sensitivity training strengthening the owner-dog bond between you to allow her to be less scared.
