Great Costumes for Your Pet For Halloween

Wondering what to dress up your furry family member in for Halloween? Here’s a bunch of fun ideas!

Send your four-legged friend to outer space. Create a space rocket costume with just some spray paint, two-liter soda bottles, and some tissue paper. Use red and yellow tissue paper for the flames coming out of the rocket. Just attach the rocket on your pet’s harness using duct tape.

Wrap your pet into a mummy using medical gauze. First, soak the gauze in some brown tea water and let it dry. Then, just wrap it around some white dog pajamas on your pet. You’ll get a lot of oo’s and ah’s with this mummy costume.

Like childhood fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood? Huskies and other wolf-like breeds make a wonderful big bad wolf. Just put a bonnet on your big dog to look like a grandma. If you have a small dog, just add a red cape and even put them in a basket. Be sure to take a picture, too.

Dress your furry pal up as a to-go cup. This can easily be done by using a Starbucks bag and putting it around your pet. Then add the to-go coffee lid as a hat. And if you have a different favorite coffee place, just swap out the logo. It’s a fast and cute Halloween costume for your pet.

Everyone loves pinatas. Craft a pinata costume with some crepe paper. Just use a hot glue gun to attach the crepe paper strips to a pet sweater. You can even purchase a mini sombrero for this creative pet costume.

A bride and groom costume make a great duo if you’ve got two dogs. For the bride’s dress, just cut off the sleeves of a child’s t-shirt and add some tulle to the hem for a tutu. Use a white headband and attach some tulle for the veil. For the groom, use a child’s black t-shirt and paint a tuxedo in the front. You can use white fabric paint for this. Then, use black fabric paint to make the buttons. Use a black ribbon to fashion a bow tie for your pet. And if you want to go the extra mile, decorate a wagon for the happy couple to ride in with a sign on the back that says “Just Married.” Add tied cans to the wagon for a classic look.

If you’re a foodie, create a costume for your pet that looks like a hot dog or edamame. To make the hot dog bun, measure your pet’s waist and hips and cut two hot dog bun shapes using brown craft foam. Cut some yellow and red felt to look like mustard and ketchup. Cut the sleeves off of a pink t-shirt and glue the yellow and red felt onto it. Attach the tan craft foam to both sides of the t-shirt using a glue gun. That’s one cute hotdog. For edamame, do the measurements to determine how long the green felt should be and how many foam balls are needed for the soybean look. Use three to six green foam balls and gather the ends of the felt to create a boat-like shape. Cut off the sleeves of a child’s green t-shirt and blue the pea pod on to the back of it. Now, your friendly friend looks like your favorite food.

Make your pet a martini with olives for Halloween. It’s easy as pie. Just get a plastic cone, a wooden dowel, green Styrofoam balls, and some red felt. Fashion the plastic cone with a wooden dowel to put the Styrofoam balls on as the olives. Use a bit of red felt for the pimento.

A Where’s Waldo is another creative Halloween costume for your pet. This famous children’s book star always turns heads. Just put an old red and white sweater on your pet and get a dog toque. Then you can add a pair of black plastic glasses. You’ll be hearing, “I’ve found Waldo!”

Turn your pet into a superhero for Halloween. Use an old t-shirt and decorate your favorite comic book hero or makeup one of your own. Fabric paints can be used to design the emblem and use felt with elastic to make a mask.

Turn your dog into a pupcake for Halloween. For this sweet costume, you’ll need a paper mache box, cotton backing, felt, natural colored paper, elastic, and a glue gun. Even paint on some sprinkles with some different colored fabric paint. This costume will definitely turn your pooch into a sweet treat.

If your cuddly friend has stolen your heart, dress him up as a bandit. All you need is a black and white striped shirt and a black mask. You can make the mask with felt and elastic. Add a prop, too. For example, a paper bag filled with stolen goods.

And for those of you who don’t feel like doing it yourself, here are some store-bought ideas. A very popular pet costume for this year is California Costumes Pet Ups Pal Dog Costume. It’s a UPS costume. The shirt has sleeves and fastens around your pet’s neck with Velcro. There’s even a UPS foam visor with a chin strap. The FLAdorepet Dog Dinosaur Costume is another winner. It’s made of light fleece for comfort and comes with yellow accents. It has snaps to make it easy to put on and take off. You could even use this as a blanket for your pet on chilly days.

Whether you make your own Halloween costume for your pet or buy one from the store, make sure your pet gets a “Trick or Treat” this Halloween.
