We lead busy lives, but paying attention to the little things can keep you and your pet safe and happy, especially as the weather warms up.
These tips will help to keep your pet healthy and happy:
- Feed your pet regular meals. Keeping the food bowl full is definitely convenient, but it doesn’t create the best habits. Imagine having access to a buffet 24 hours a day – you’d pack on a couple pounds too! Try to adjust your pet to regular meal times to both regulate his eating habits and monitor how much he eats.
- Play! Too little exercise puts your pet at risk of being overweight. Animals need exercise to be healthy, just like we do. Even if your pet can’t go outside, be sure to play together indoors for at least half an hour each day.
- Watch out for ticks. When you do take that walk with Fido, be sure to check him for ticks when you get back inside. Especially as the weather heats up, ticks become more common. Overlooking a tick puts you and your pet at risk for diseases like Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lyme Disease.
- Give flea medication every month. It can be expensive, but it will be much more expensive if you skip it. Be sure to give your pet the medication regularly, because fleas will find an unprotected kitty or pup. Buy a six-month supply and put a reminder on your calendar each month to avoid fleas.
