Cat Cafes

Ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to announce the opening of (another) cat café!

Did you hear? The United Kingdom’s first café to feature felines as well as tea will be opening its doors in October. The location of this unique café is Shoreditch in East London, and the name of the tea room is Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium. If you don’t quite get the picture yet, Lady Dinah’s will include resident cats! Owners are working with an animal home to rescue kittens and cats to fill the café with. The animals will move into the space before the grand opening, so that they can get acclimated to their new home.

So, what’s a cat café like? For a small fee of three pounds per visit, patrons will have the option of seating either inside or outside. The cats will also have access to these areas, along with their own private area. The felines will have a special two-story garden to call their own, which no patrons will have access to.

While this may be the first time I have heard of a cat café, the first location actually opened years ago–in 1998 in Taiwan. The trend then grew in Japan, which now has over 100 cat cafés. Other countries with such unique tea rooms are Korea and Austria.

Who knows, maybe American is next!
