I don't know if you know much about goldfish, I got 2 that were not taken very good care of — their tank was in terrible shape, I don't think it had been cleaned in months. Anyway, I read on the computer to feed fish lettuce and other vegetables. Is that right? If so, can you explain how to feed it to them? Sandra Yeager
I would first start with getting your goldfish food that is designed for them. While you can supplement them with things like leafy vegetables and unshelled peas, this should not be the only source of food. Goldfish specifically need more carbs than proteins. Goldfish will eat and over eat which can be problematic and even cause blocked intestines. Feeding too much can cause issues within the tank when the food settles to the bottom and begins to rot. They can also produce too much waste which is also problematic. The rule of thumb to feed them is to give them enough to eat for 3-4 minutes at a time 3-6 times a day. To supplement the diet, you can give bloodworms from the pet store and even oranges without the peels cut into small pieces. Be sure to keep your goldfish happy by regularly cleaning the tank.
