Ask Seth: Cheerios Harmful to Dogs?

I have a 3 year old cockapoo that is in excellent health. Sometimes I like to snack on Honey Nut Cheerios dry. Is is okay to give a few to my dog?   Are cheerios harmful to dogs? Attilio Fuanari

Attilio, Cheerios are a relatively harmless treat as long as you pet is in good health, not a diabetic, and it doesn’t upset your dogs’ stomach.  As with most things, be careful not to give too much. They are basically carbohydrates and sugar so they are not usually in the ideal animal diet.  As long as you keep it to a few, it should be fine.   Here are a list of a few foods harmful to dogs:

Chocolate or coffee
Grapes or raisins
Garlic and onions
Macadamia nuts
Avacodos
Gum containing Xylitol

If you think your animal got in to any of these, contact your veterinarian immediately!
