Ask Seth: Cat Sleep

My cat seems to sleep all day and night.   How long does a normal cat sleep?

This is an interesting and common question.  One study concluded that domestic cats will sleep on average nine and a half hours a day.  In addition to this, they will spend another five and a third hours simply resting.   Cats are most active at dawn and dusk.  This is because the natural prey follows this same pattern.   Some cats are simply bored.  Try to stimulate them daily with toys and treats.  If you feel that your cat is more lethargic than normally, contact your veterinarian.
